| WHY BICOL |
The Philippines is not only known for its scenic places and breath-taking sites. It is also known for its man-made crises like political manipulations, endemic corruption and overpopulation. It is also home for disastrous Forces of Nature such as floods, mudslides, earthquakes and typhoons.
The Bicol Region is not exempt from these powerful forces of nature. Truth be told, it is often the hardest hit. Because of this, the region is also the poorest in Luzon. Thirty-three out of the hundred most nutritionally deprived municipalities in the country are also found in Bicol. Just recently, strong winds and unrelenting rain came close to erasing Bicol from the map.
It may have damaged the province, BUT it did not break its spirit.
Incidence of poverty is again expected to rise particularly in Albay and Camarines Sur. The recent disasters displaced and left homeless a large number of families in the area. Even agricultural production is expected to decline as well.
Rebuilding Bicol is not a walk in the park. This is why we chose Bicol and this is why we are appealing for your help. Work with us and help start changing the Philippines by changing one community at a time.
